Much credit for that aura of sensuality and danger goes to John Barry's use of sultry jazz flavorings over a rich orchestra to convey that crucial, albeit clammy, sense of sophistication and doom. This near carbon copy of the original soundtrack may allow listeners to suspend disbelief at times, but one senses that dreary blurring of instruments usually associated with many live-concert-performance recordings. Instead of sultry smoke, listeners may be frustrated to find their cinema memories lost in a sonic fog that a horny saxophone cannot clear. --Joseph Lanza (amazon.com)

Somewhere In Time The Old Woman The Journey Back In Time A Day Together Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini Is He The One? The Man Of My Dreams Return To The Present Somewhere In Time (Theme)   While director Jeannot Szwarc's 1980 time-travel romance nearly drowned in a sea of its own bathos, the score of the Christopher Reeve/Jane Seymour vehicle has become something of a word-of-mouth classic. Chalk that status up to the great English composer John Barry, whose lushly romantic score has largely overshadowed the film it was written for. Note to Titanic fans: if you liked the score for that film, you may fall in love with (or to) this one as well. Ironically, much of the action of Somewhere in Time takes place in 1912, the year the Titanic sank.
